Dovilė Bernadišiūtė

In April 2018, in Arstaberg, Stockholm, Best Laid Plans brought together the works of Dovile Bernadisiute and Hannah Clarkson for the first time as the BodyBuilding collective Located in the industrial areas of Arstaberg, a place in simultaneous demolition and construction, the project set out to contemplate humankind’s relationship to the built space.

The title of the project comes from an oft-quoted line from Scottish poet Robert Burns “The best-laid plans of mice and men often go awry”. The phrase has been adopted as an expression to signify the futility of making detailed plans when the ability to fully or even partially execute them is uncertain. With the artists’ conjoined interest for the setting of the project, located in a 1960’s industrial building with the official name Packrummet 12, the resulting artworks reflect a moment in past and future. They take on the specificity of the site and the narratives inherent to the building.

Later the same year, in September, the same project was shown but reconfigured for Gustavsberg Konsthall, another place dealing with concerns of the loss of historic buildings and artists’ studio spaces due to capitalist housing development trends

Now, as a similar situation arises at the iconic Satans Demokrati building, we would like to show the work in a new way relating to the unique architecture of this space, too.
